The Health Care Specialist performs equipment setups in a timely and professional manner. This employee is generally responsible for the setup of highly technical equipment such as ventilators, monitors, and CPAP units. The Health Care Specialist also provides technical assistance with equipment and may perform setup of all types of oxygen equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing patient education as part of patient care, often in the patient's home, requiring the use of a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
- Performing complete and professional patient assessments following policies and procedures.
- Maintaining current knowledge of respiratory homecare techniques and relevant respiratory therapy concepts.
- Following applicable safety and regulatory policies, including OSHA, DOT, FDA, and Emergency Planning.
- Representing the company professionally through personal appearance, patient care activities, and written reports.
- Facilitating prescription collection.
- Maintaining organized patient records in compliance with accreditation standards.
- Working on-call after hours and weekends as needed, with response times determined by center size and staffing.
Experience Levels:
- Level 1: Familiar with home health care equipment and services or related patient care experience.
- Level 2: Minimum of two years of experience in home health care.
- Level 3: Minimum of three years of experience in home health care, potentially involved in training others.
Qualifications:
- Excellent human relations skills for interfacing with doctors, referral sources, and patients.
- Computer literacy.
- Completion of all required training, education, and certification/licensing.
- Authorization within scope of practice to provide patient care services.
- Ongoing certification, registration, or licensing as required by law or regulation. CRTs and RRTs are qualified; other clinicians such as RNs, LPNs, LVNs, paramedics, EMTs may qualify depending on state law.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently, and more than 50 pounds occasionally.
