Job summary

Nemours Children's Health in Orlando, Florida is seeking a qualified Respiratory Therapist to provide routine and emergency respiratory care across patient care areas. You will offer clinical direction for trainees and work closely with nurses, physicians and families to support patient recovery.

Responsibilities include aerosolized therapy, airway management, ABG sampling, CPR during emergencies, documentation in EMR, and participating in discharge planning, home care education, and equipment

Qualifications

  • Florida State License required.
  • NBRC – RRT certification required.
  • American Heart Association BLS required; PALS within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Verify physician orders for respiratory care and provide age-appropriate care across patient populations (infants to adults).
  • Assess patients clinically and evaluate appropriate therapy.
  • Provide aerosolized therapy, airway clearance and airway management, ventilator setup and monitoring; non-invasive monitoring.
  • Perform arterial blood gas sampling, point-of-care testing and ECGs; assist in bronchoscopies.
  • Document care and orders in EMR; enter charges when necessary.
  • Participate in discharge planning and home-care education; train patients and families.
  • Provide recommendations and education to physicians and nurses regarding respiratory care.
  • Evaluate respiratory care equipment and procedures; maintain knowledge of policies.

Job Description

Nemours is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team in Orlando, Florida. Under the general direction of the Therapist in Charge or Assistant Director of Respiratory Care, the RT will provide routine and emergency respiratory care in all patient care areas. The RT will offer clinical direction for trainees and technicians, provide consultation and education to other healthcare professionals, and maintain frequent contact with patients and their families. The RT will collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff.

Responsibilities
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Verify all physician orders for respiratory care and provide age-appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Assess patients clinically and evaluate the appropriateness of therapy.
  • Provide aerosolized medication therapy, airway clearance therapies, and airway management (trach changes, tube taping, suctioning, medical gas therapy, ventilator setup and management, non‑invasive monitoring including pulse oximetry, transcutaneous O2/CO2 and end‑tidal CO2 monitoring), assist with in‑house and inter‑facility transports.
  • Provide emergency respiratory care (airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation), perform arterial blood gas sampling, point‑of‑care testing and electrocardiograms, and assist in airway management during bronchoscopies.
  • Document care, patient assessment, and orders in EMR; enter charges when necessary.
  • Participate in discharge planning and home‑care education by training patients, families, and care providers.
  • Provide recommendations and education to physicians and nurses regarding respiratory care.
  • Participate in the evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures and maintain current knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
