Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient situations, primarily in critical care areas, with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. Responsibilities include patient education, family/support system education, activity coordination, staff development, and professional growth. The RT II considers population-specific needs, addressing biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational aspects when providing care. They also participate in the education of new employees and students.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Provide excellent customer service through comprehensive patient care, documentation, and education
• Collaborate with healthcare team members for patient care planning
• Verify orders and administer aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, and oxygen therapy
• Manage ventilators, perform weaning, interpret waveforms, and handle airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy care)
• Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis
• Educate patients and mentor new staff and students
• Assist in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac services, and pulmonary diagnostics
• Promote a safe, high-quality environment through accurate electronic documentation, medication safety, and performance improvement initiatives

Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program (CoARC or CAAHEP) with at least 20 quarter hours of science. An Associate's Degree is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
