SALARY RANGE : BU13 | Respiratory Therapist I SR16/ Respiratory Therapist II SR18

SALARY RATE: Therapist I - $52,416.00 - $61,384 (Annual Salary)Therapist II - $56,700.00 - $66,324 (Annual Salary)

JOB DUTIES : The Respiratory Therapist I/II works in the respiratory therapy unit and exercises clinical judgment, with some supervision, in applying scientific knowledge and theory to practical respiratory care problems in accordance with physicians’ orders. The position is responsible for independently administering respiratory tests and treatment to patients with respiratory diseases and disorders including cases involving critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status andinterpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by children (birth -17 years), adult (18-65 years), and geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups. The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, and weekends and holidays.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: An associate degree in respiratory therapy from a program approved at the time of graduation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, (CoARC), or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) AND Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: For Therapist 1-None, Therapist II - Six (6) months of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision. The experience must have equipped the applicant with a full professional understanding of the evaluation, testing, and treatment of respiratory therapy problems and the ability to develop and modify individual patient care plans.

LICENSE: A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Respiratory Therapist at the time of appointment.

CERTIFICATION : A current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required withinsix(6) months ofemployment.

DESIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of principles and practices of respiratory therapy; respiratory therapy treatment procedures; operation of respiratory therapy equipment; monitoring patients; charting observations, evaluation and testing procedures, treatment techniques including use and modifications of appropriate therapy equipment, performing or participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and methods of instructing patients and/or family members. Ability to independently apply the principles, methods and techniques of respiratory therapy; select and use evaluating and diagnostic procedures effectively; prepare treatment plans; deal effectively with patients and other individuals; operate standard respiratory therapy equipment and make minor adjustments and repairs; keep records and prepare reports and instruct patients and others in the application of respiratory therapy procedures.
