Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa seeks a Registered Respiratory Therapist to set up and operate respiratory equipment, administer gases and medications, and respond to emergencies. The role includes ABG analysis, patient education, and assisting in transport of ventilated patients.
Required qualifications include an Oklahoma RT license and BLS; Associate Degree preferred with 0-1 year experience. Work schedule includes alternate weekends and holidays.
The Registered Respiratory Therapist reports to the shift supervisor/manager. Capable of setting up and operating various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and or illness. The therapist provides administration of respiratory specific gases and medications, and modes of therapy for the respiratory compromised patient. Responds to emergencies throughout the hospital. Performs Holter monitor initiation and discontinuance. Analyze and advises on arterial blood gas results. Inservice patients and families on the use of Respiratory equipment in the home environment. Assists in the transport of mechanically ventilated patients. May assist in the ordering of department supplies. Takes and records verbal and telephone orders from physicians as necessary. Acts as a resource person to nurses, physicians, residents, interns, respiratory staff, students and other hospital staff in regards to initiation and operation of all respiratory procedures. May assume a Charge role in the absence of the Respiratory Supervisor. Takes an active part in attending departmental inservice/education programs. Participates in Quality Assurance programs, and participates in department and/or OSUMC committees. Work schedule includes working alternate weekends and holidays.
