Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a qualified Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide comprehensive respiratory care upon physician order for patients from neonates to geriatrics. You will assess status, administer therapies, educate patients, and document outcomes to support wellness and recovery.

Responsibilities include ventilator management, airway care, ECG interpretation, and collaboration with the care team to optimize patient outcomes while maintaining safety

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) with NBRC RRT credential required.
• ACLS, CPR/BLS and PALS within specified timelines.
• Licensed RT by State Board of Healing Arts upon Hire.
• NBRC RRT certification upon Hire.
• NRP within 120 days.

Responsibilities

• Administers physician-prescribed aerosol therapy and oxygen therapy; verifies order before starting therapy.
• Performs initial and ongoing respiratory assessments and documents findings.
• Manages patients on mechanical ventilation and uses ventilators to optimize care.
• Performs ECGs and interprets basic rhythms and arrhythmias.
• Educates patients and families about respiratory care and treatment plans.
• Maintains airway patency and provides care for artificial airways; monitors cuff pressures.
• Assists with bronchoscopy and pulmonary diagnostics as needed.
• Collaborates with physicians and nursing staff to implement respiratory care plans.
