Summary

The respiratory therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care, including assessments, procedures, and patient education, primarily for neonatal and pediatric patients. The role involves collaboration, adherence to safety standards, and continuous professional growth.

Major Responsibilities

1. Assess patients using pulmonary diagnostics, radiographs, hemodynamic and lab values, blood gases, and electrolytes.
2. Operate specialized ventilators and assist physicians with procedures.
3. Administer medication treatments per physician orders or protocols.
4. Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
5. Educate patients and families on therapy and disease management.
6. Collaborate with departments for patient care and education.
7. Follow policies and perform duties as assigned, maintaining performance standards.
8. Communicate effectively, provide timely handoffs, and promote safety.
9. Educate and precept new staff and students.
10. Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles.

Qualifications

Licensure & Certification: RCP license, active NBRC RRT or CRT credential, BLS certification. Additional site-specific requirements may apply.

Education: Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program (minimum associate degree).

Experience: No experience required.

Skills & Abilities: Organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, time management, and computer skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform transfers, and use equipment safely. Must demonstrate proper body mechanics.
