Job Summary:

The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 2 (Nights). The successful candidate will:

• Provide respiratory care for Adult, Pediatric, & Neonatal patients under the direction of a physician; (Neonatal and Pediatric Primary.
• Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.
• Conduct ventilator management.
• Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.
• Record respiratory progress of patients who are being ventilated mechanically.
• Record the respiratory status of all patients.
• Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardiorespiratory arrests.
• Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.
• Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.
• Make entries in patient’s progress record and hospital computer systems.
• Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and housestaff.
• Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.
• Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.
• Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications).

Required Qualifications:

• New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
• Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
• BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment).
• NRP required to work in NICU.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NPS, NRP, PALS and ACLS preferred.

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 7:30pm to 8:30am (Full-Time Nights)
