Job summary

Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, MN is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a 0.5 FTE (Day/Evening) position. Starting pay ranges from $37.14 to $55.71 per hour based on experience. External candidates are typically offered within the stated range based on qualifications.

The role involves critical care respiratory support, ventilator management, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. On-site work with on-call responsibilities as noted.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Minnesota CRT.

Responsibilities

• Provides respiratory care to patients including critical care and advanced therapies.
• Monitors and manages ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, oxygen delivery and related equipment.
• Assesses patient responses and communicates with clinicians to optimize therapy.
• Educates patients and families on respiratory disease management and home oxygen setup.
• Participates in performance improvement and rapid response coverage.
• Performs routine charging verification of respiratory supplies in the EHR.

Education

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory therapy
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered by the State of Minnesota (CRT)

Job Responsibilities

• Two years of critical care experience preferred
• Provides Care At The Hospital To Patients With Respiratory Care Needs Including Those Receiving Advanced Therapeutic Care, Which Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following
• Ventilator
• Bipap/Cpap
• Incentive spirometry
• Aerosol/MDI treatments
• NT suctioning
• High velocity nasal canula
• Nasal canula
• ET suctioning
• CPT/PEP therapy
• BiWaze
• Monitors patient's physiological response to therapy such as vital signs, arterial, and venous blood gases. Consults with clinician if adverse reactions occur.
• Works as a team in a multidisciplinary environment to provide care and provide recommendations for appropriate therapy.
• Assists with monitoring end tidal CO2 and SPO2 of patients.
• Educates patients and families on respiratory disease management.
• Works with patients and families to set up home oxygen therapy.
• Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Responds to rapid response and codes called within the hospital with appropriate equipment.
• Monitors respiratory supplies and equipment as needed.
• Reviews EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
• Makes rounds within the hospital departments to assess patient respiratory care needs and communicates with charge nurses and house supervisors as needed.
• Assesses respiratory equipment and supplies.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and review of respiratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Monitors EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
• Other duties as assigned.

On Call Responsibilities

• Your response time will be less than one hour, sooner if possible.
• There is a two-hour minimum paid time for being called in.
• Provide coverage for three shifts per month.
• Provide at least one weekend shift every month.
• Provide coverage for one holiday shift per year.
