This role requires NC licensure, NBRC CRT or RRT credentials, and BLS. Prior acute-care experience is preferred.

Job description

We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive respiratory care to patients across a clinical healthcare environment. This professional will assess patients, administer prescribed treatments, monitor patient response, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to support safe, effective outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assess patients’ respiratory conditions and recommend appropriate respiratory care interventions.
  • Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and other prescribed treatments.
  • Manage and monitor mechanical ventilation and other respiratory-support equipment.
  • Perform airway management procedures and respond to respiratory emergencies.
  • Obtain and evaluate clinical data, including blood gas results and pulmonary measurements.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and adjust care within established protocols.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, medications, and equipment.
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Document assessments, treatments, patient progress, and outcomes accurately.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in emergency response and resuscitation efforts when required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license, or eligibility for licensure, in North Carolina.
  • Current credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist, as required by the position.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to assess patients, prioritize clinical needs, and respond effectively in urgent situations.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.
  • Previous respiratory care experience in an acute-care or hospital environment.
  • Advanced Life Support certifications applicable to the assigned patient population.
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation, airway management, and complex respiratory conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position operates in a clinical setting and may involve prolonged standing, moving medical equipment, assisting with patient positioning, and responding to emergencies. The role may require weekends, holidays, on-call coverage, or rotating shifts depending on departmental needs.
