Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist committed to providing exceptional patient care by demonstrating strong knowledge in the field.

Respiratory care is ordered by physicians according to established standards, practices, and protocols.

We are looking for someone with working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care. Knowledge of respiratory care equipment operation and its clinical application is essential. The candidate should be able to assess hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and take corrective action. The ability to work with patients of all ages (neonatal to geriatrics), remain calm under stress, and communicate effectively with diverse individuals is required.

Primary Duties:

1. Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of the patient, including educational needs, and document appropriately. Refer to competency validation documents for the populations served where applicable.
2. Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring, and management of equipment such as oxygen, mixed gases, humidity, ventilators (invasive and non-invasive), bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry testing, EKG machines, and blood gas analysis.
3. Use principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem solving, and crisis intervention in patient care.
4. Respond to emergencies, participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintain airway, provide oxygen and ventilation, and perform chest compressions as needed.
5. Facilitate workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems, departmental policies, and procedures, and recommend improvements. Review electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the shift.

This position has a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
