Job summary

Saint Luke's East Hospital in Lees Summit, MO, is seeking a Respiratory Intern. The student will gain hands-on experience under supervision, performing scope of practice activities related to respiratory therapy, patient assessment, planning and interventions.

The position is part-time and requires active enrollment in a recognized Respiratory Therapy program with plans to obtain state licensure. BLS certification is required or in progress.

Qualifications

• Student currently enrolled in a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Less than 1 year of applicable experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or in process.

Responsibilities

• Assist with diagnostic and metabolic testing, patient assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions.
• Collaborate with medical staff to support efficient and quality patient care and discharge education.

Performs all aspects of the scope of practice of a respiratory therapist and where applicable cardiopulmonary scope of practice. Scope of practice includes but is not limited to diagnostic and metabolic testing, patient assessment , treatment, planning and therapeutic interventions, analysis and reporting of clinical response. Therapists work in collaboration with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to support efficient, cost effective and quality patient and family care, as well as providing patient and family education and discharge planning.
