Job summary

Atlantic Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide expert care for patients with cardiopulmonary issues under physician supervision. You will evaluate prescriptions, administer therapies, monitor responses, and support patient education.

Responsibilities include operating ventilators and aerosol systems, performing pulmonary function tests, and coordinating with physicians to adjust treatment plans to patient needs. This on-site role emphasizes safety and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and checks patient information to assess condition and determine therapy requirements.
• Renders aerosol medications and treatments for inhalation and positions patients to aid breathing.
• Determines the best method of administering inhalants according to physician orders and necessary precautions.
• Sets up and operates devices such as ventilators, gas administration systems, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
• Operates equipment to maintain prescribed treatment parameters and administer medicinal gases and aerosols.
• Monitors patient responses to therapy, including vital signs and arterial blood gases.
• Performs chest physiotherapy to remove mucus and assists breathing exercises.
• Assists in diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests for physician diagnosis.
• Observes equipment function and adjusts settings to optimize therapy.
• Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions.
• Maintains patient charts and inspects equipment to ensure safety and function; orders repairs when needed.
• Provides patient education and support for chronic lung disease.
• Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel.
• May care for premature infants and elderly patients with pulmonary or cardiac concerns.
• Other related duties as assigned
