Altru Health in Grand Forks, ND is seeking a Respiratory Care Specialist EMT to support the Respiratory Therapy team in hospital settings. You will assist patients with breathing difficulties by providing oxygen and therapies.

Required EMT certifications (ND Board and National Registry) and BLS. Strong communication and patient-focused care are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and implement treatments for acute respiratory disorders.
• Administer oxygen therapy, walking desaturation tests, aerosols, chest physiotherapy.
• Perform O2 rounds and maintain respiratory equipment per SOP.
• Identify patients needing home respiratory support prior to discharge.
• Document all orders, EMR entries, medication charts and reports.
• Assist Respiratory Therapy team as needed and perform other duties.

Serves patients who have trouble breathing, and those who have asthma or other pulmonary ailments. Tasks include providing oxygen and therapies to patients within the hospital setting. Must have strong communication skills and desire to help others.

Essential Job Functions

• Assesses, plans, and implements treatments for acute respiratory disorders.
• Administering treatments such as oxygen therapy, walking desaturation tests, aerosol medications, chest physiotherapy, and assist the Respiratory Therapy team as needed.
• O2 rounds, disassembles, and cleans Respiratory equipment and performs preventative maintenance according to standard operating procedure.
• Recognizing those patients that may require additional respiratory support at home prior to discharge.
• Identifying patient and family needs.
• Identifies significant changes in patient's condition and reports to Respiratory Therapist.
• Completes all documentation, including order entry, verification, electronic medical record (EMR), medication charting, patient safety/incident variance reports, equipment repair tags, etc. according to standard operating procedure.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
