Job summary

Altru Health System in Grand Forks, ND is seeking a Respiratory Care Specialist EMT to support the Respiratory Therapy team. You will assist patients with breathing difficulties and provide oxygen and therapies within the hospital setting.

The role requires EMT and BLS certifications, strong communication, and a patient‑centered approach. You will perform treatments, assist with equipment, document care in the EMR, and collaborate with the team to ensure safe, effective respiratory care.

Qualifications

• Must be EMT certified and BLS certified prior to start.
• Experience with respiratory therapies is preferred.
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and implements treatments for acute respiratory disorders.
• Administering treatments such as oxygen therapy, walking desaturation tests, aerosol medications, chest physiotherapy, and assist the Respiratory Therapy team as needed.
• O2 rounds, disassembles, and cleans Respiratory equipment and performs preventative maintenance according to standard operating procedure.
• Recognizing those patients that may require additional respiratory support at home prior to discharge. Identifying patient and family needs.
• Identifies significant changes in patient's condition and reports to Respiratory Therapist
• Completes all documentation, including order entry, verification, EMR, medication charting, patient safety/incident variance reports, equipment repair tags, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
