Job summary

Johns Hopkins Medicine is seeking a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner to join the Howard County Medical Center team. You will independently deliver specialized respiratory care to adult patients with cardiopulmonary conditions, including gas administration and aerosol therapies.

You will assess, treat, and manage disorders, monitor responses, perform blood gas analyses, and provide emergency interventions while supporting staff orientation and education in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required.
  • Graduate of a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide specialized respiratory care to adult patients.
  • Assess, treat and manage cardiopulmonary conditions with advanced therapies.
  • Draw and interpret blood gases; monitor responses to treatment.

General Summary:

Join our team as a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner, where you will independently provide specialized, evidence-based respiratory care to adult patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. You will assess, treat and manage respiratory disorders using advanced therapies, including medical gas administration, aerosol treatments, bronchial hygiene techniques, airway management and invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Working alongside physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will develop individualized care plans, draw and interpret blood gases, monitor patients’ responses to treatment and provide emergency respiratory interventions when needed. You will also serve as a clinical resource and support staff orientation, training and the education of respiratory therapy students.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy, Respiratory Care or a related field.

  • Graduate of a Registered Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

  • Minimum of two years of relevant clinical respiratory care experience in adult critical care.

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

  • Current Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner license.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, when applicable.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and respond effectively during emergencies and rapidly changing clinical situations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing respiratory care in an intensive care unit or emergency department.

  • Experience with invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, arterial blood gases and emergency response.

  • Experience serving as a clinical resource or supporting staff and student education.

  • Experience caring for high-acuity patients in rapidly changing clinical situations.
