Job summary

Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide comprehensive respiratory care for neonate through geriatric patients. You will perform arterial punctures, ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, and ventilator management.

The role requires a California RCP license, BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NICU preceptorship; preferred BS/AS in Respiratory Therapy and at least 2 years acute care experience.

Qualifications

  • Current California RCP License required.
  • 20 hours of didactic NICU training (including STABLE) with a 4+ week NICU preceptorship.
  • CPR/BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications required.
  • Fire Safety certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care for neonate to geriatric patients.
  • Perform arterial punctures, ventilation support, airway maintenance and infection control.
  • Maintain equipment per policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with care team and educate patients and families.

Job description

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well‑being. Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.

  • Ensures that patient care is appropriate, effective and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that communications and interactions with patients and other care givers are appropriate and timely.
  • Ensures that patient and family education is accurate, culturally sensitive, and performed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that diagnostic test results are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
  • Maintains all related equipment in optimal working order per policy and regulatory requirements.

To be successful in this role, you must possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

Required
  • Current California RCP License
  • 20 hours of didactic training (including STABLE certificate) focused on neonatal care and ability to demonstrate competencies in providing care in NICU setting under a preceptorship of at least 4 weeks
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner: CA
  • Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Fire Safety certification within 90 days
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s of Science in Respiratory Therapy
  • At least 2 years acute care experience including pediatrics, trauma, and ventilator management; blood gas and pulmonary function testing experience and experience with extended and managed care
