Job Title: Respiratory Care Practitioner

The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for assessing patients with respiratory disorders, conducting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and administering respiratory therapy. This role operates medical devices, monitors patient responses, and provides emergency care when needed. The practitioner collaborates with healthcare teams to manage respiratory conditions, improve lung function, and enhance patient well-being. Additionally, this role involves educating patients about respiratory health and disease prevention.

Key Responsibilities

1. Restore pulmonary function and alleviate pain through planning and administering prescribed respiratory therapy.
2. Conduct pulmonary function tests, assess and interpret evaluation results, and determine treatment plans in consultation with physicians.
3. Administer inhalants, operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to help patients achieve treatment goals.
4. Perform bronchopulmonary drainage, assist with breathing exercises, and monitor physiological responses such as vital signs and blood gases.
5. Evaluate treatment effects, monitor patient progress, and recommend adjustments as needed.
6. Participate in discharge planning by consulting with healthcare team members and contributing to patient care conferences.
7. Design and instruct patients, families, and caregivers on home exercise programs to ensure continuity of care post-discharge.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years in acute clinical care or completion of equivalent clinical rotations.
• Licensure/Certifications: Licensed by North Carolina Respiratory Care Board; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or provisional license/CRT at hire; BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
