Job summary

Mercy Hospital Bakersfield is seeking a skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide essential respiratory care across neonate to geriatric patients. You will perform arterial punctures, manage ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency support, infection control, and medical gas administration.

The role requires CA license, RRT, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP, with one year acute care experience; quarterly AHA RQI certification post-hire is required.

Qualifications

• One year of clinical experience as a licensed respiratory therapist in an acute care setting.
• Experience in emergency department, adult, pediatric, neonatal and general respiratory care.
• CA Respiratory Care Practitioner license (or eligible).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.

Responsibilities

• Perform arterial punctures and continuous ventilation.
• Airway maintenance and emergency respiratory care.
• Infection control and isolation procedures adherence.
• Operate mechanical ventilators and manage cardiopulmonary emergencies.
• Provide Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support as needed.
• Perform ECG testing and interpret basic results.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being.

Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.

To be successful, you will possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

• Advanced Practitioner level responsibilities. Provides expertise in care to all areas of the hospital and all patient populations on an independent level. Functions as a resource for both internal and external customers in all aspects of Respiratory Care.
• Performs advanced duties of Respiratory Care as outlined in the American Association of Respiratory Care's Clinical Practice Guidelines: http://www.rcjournal.com/cpgs/index.cfm
• Respond to emergency call throughout the hospital and perform emergency respiratory care procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• Provide basic and advanced life support measures to all patient populations concentrating on area of expertise: Airway and Ventilation.
• Performs electrocardiograph testing and related procedures.
• Performs EKG testing to all patient populations and have basic knowledge to determine discrepancies in machine interpretations.

Job Requirements Required

• One year clinical experience working as a licensed respiratory therapist in an acute care setting and
• Experience must include emergency department, adult, pediatric, neonatal and general respiratory care and

Preferred

• Bachelors Of Science Respiratory Therapy and Advanced practitioner level experience and ability to perform independently in the NICU and Adult ICU's, upon hire
• Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty Respiratory Therapist, upon hire and
• Adult Critical Care Specialty Examination, upon hire

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
