Job summary

Mercy Hospital Bakersfield, part of Dignity Health, seeks a Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide essential respiratory support for neonate through geriatric patients in a high-acuity setting. You will manage mechanical ventilation, airway care, arterial punctures, and emergency respiratory procedures.

The ideal candidate holds a CA RCP license, RRT credential, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and at least one year of acute care experience including ED, NICU or ICU, with a strong focus on patient safety.

Qualifications

• One year clinical experience working as a licensed respiratory therapist in an acute care setting.
• Experience must include emergency department, adult, pediatric, neonatal and general respiratory care.

Responsibilities

• Advanced Practitioner level responsibilities. Provides expertise in care to all areas of the hospital and all patient populations on an independent level.
• Performs advanced duties of Respiratory Care as outlined in the American Association of Respiratory Care's Clinical Practice Guidelines.
• Respond to emergency call throughout the hospital and perform emergency respiratory care procedures.
• Provide basic and advanced life support measures to all patient populations concentrating on airway and ventilation.
• Performs electrocardiograph testing and related procedures.
• Performs EKG testing and interpret machine readings.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being.

Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.

To be successful, you will possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

• Advanced Practitioner level responsibilities. Provides expertise in care to all areas of the hospital and all patient populations on an independent level. Functions as a resource for both internal and external customers in all aspects of Respiratory Care.

• Respond to emergency call throughout the hospital and perform emergency respiratory care procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines.

• Performs EKG testing to all patient populations and have basic knowledge to determine discrepancies in machine interpretations.

Job Requirements

Required:

• One year clinical experience working as a licensed respiratory therapist in an acute care setting and

Preferred:

• Bachelors Of Science Respiratory Therapy and Advanced practitioner level experience and ability to perform independently in the NICU and Adult ICU's, upon hire
• Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty Respiratory Therapist, upon hire and
• Adult Critical Care Specialty Examination, upon hire

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
