Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL, seeks a Respiratory Therapist (CC017360) to join our Respiratory Therapy team. You will perform routine department procedures, prioritize patient therapy by acuity, document and communicate drug and treatment effects, and support critical care operations.

The role emphasizes on-call responsibilities and teaching opportunities. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of critical care experience, Florida CRT license, BLS, and a Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Florida license for Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTO) and BLS; ACLS preferred.
  • Graduate of accredited Respiratory Care program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of critical care experience; NICU experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all routine procedures of the department.
  • Prioritizes patient therapy according to patient acuity on a daily basis.
  • Administers, observes, records, and reports effects of drugs, oxygen, therapies and diagnostics.
  • Completes assignments on time while adapting to workload changes.
  • Maintains standard shift productivity.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards and troubleshooting of treatments.
  • Demonstrates annual clinical competencies and arterial blood gas capability.
  • Completes medical records and departmental forms accurately.
  • Communicates pertinent information at shift report.
  • Fulfills on-call responsibilities per policy.
  • Participates in critical care education.
  • Monitors ventilated patients per standards.
  • Educates patients and families per policy.
  • Uses supplies/resources cost-effectively.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization by communicating with physicians.
  • liaises with Pharmacy for clinical issues.
  • Reviews drug overrides and related reporting.
  • Compiles blood gas QA reports for PI and admin.

Job Description Summary:

Position Responsibilities
  • Performs all routine procedures of the department.
  • Prioritizes patient therapy according to patient acuity on a daily basis.
  • Accountable for administration, observation, charting and reporting effects of drugs, oxygen, respiratory treatments and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures.
  • Completes assignments on a timely basis while adapting to changing workloads when required.
  • Maintains standard shift productivity.
  • Demostrates knowledge of indications, cotraindications, hazards and troubleshooting of all treatments as assigned.
  • Demonstrates effective and efficient care through clinical competencies at least annually.
  • Demonstrates competency in drawing and/or running arterial blood gases at least annually.
  • Completes all forms in medical record and departmental records accurately and legibly according to hospital/departmental policy and procedure.
  • Communicates pertinent information at shift report.
  • Fulfills on call resposibilities according to departmental policy.
  • Participates in critical care program as an educator.
  • Monitors ventilation patients according to departmental standards.
  • Demonstrates ability to teach and educate patient and family according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Uses supplies, equipment and resources in a cost effective manner.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization of services by performing Patient Evaluations and communicating with physicians regarding suggested treatment changes.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with Pharmacy to address clinical issues.
  • Reviews drug override and manages related reporting.
  • Compiles blood gas critical value/stat QA report for PI office and brings value outliers to the attention of administration.
  • Complies ventilator days summary for infection control office and brings issues to the attention of administration.
  • Compiles ventilator weaning totals for administrative dashboard summary and brings issues to the attention of administration.
  • Works with Education Specialist to cover during absence.
  • All related duties as assigned by Director.
Qualifications
License/Registration/Certification
  • Florida license for Certified Respiratory Therapist. BLS Certification. ACLS preferred.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Care. Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience
  • 3-5 years critical care experience. NICU expierence a plus
