Job summary

St. Louis Children's Hospital is offering a Respiratory Care Assistant Cohort Program designed for respiratory students to gain paid, hands-on experience while learning. The role is part-time (24 hours per week) with start date and deadlines noted, and compensation is $20/hour for <1 year experience and $21/hour for >1 year, enabling practical exposure under supervision.

Participants must be enrolled in a respiratory school program and will work around school curriculum while gaining hands-on clinical experience with ICU preceptors.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in general care areas according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies.
• Recognizes abnormal findings and seeks assistance with changes in patient status to the healthcare team.
• Communicates effectively by documenting handoffs and collaborating with the healthcare team.
• Maintains time management and pursues continuous learning and feedback opportunities.
• Processes equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.

Role Purpose

Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides basic routine patient care activities in the general care areas related to respiratory care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the hospital and department. Ensures care provided is safe, effective, developmentally and age appropriate while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives. Provides cleaning, processing and general maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs various basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in the general care areas according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies.
• Recognizes and seeks assistance with abnormal findings and/or changes in patient status to other healthcare team members.
• Effectively communicates by participating in the exchange of information including documentation, handoff and works collaboratively with the healthcare team.
• Holds self-accountable and seeks out opportunities for continuous learning and feedback and is able to prioritize and apply effective time management.
• Processes equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.
