Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Care Assistant to join the Respiratory Team. This part-time role offers hands-on experience and requires enrollment in a respiratory school program.

The position pays $20/hour for less than one year of experience and $21/hour for more than one year, with a schedule that works around school commitments. Under supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will assist with basic patient care and respiratory procedures while maintaining safety

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a Respiratory School Program.
• Part-time role with 24 hours per week.
• No Experience required.
• Basic Cardiovascular Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in general care areas.
• Recognizes and seeks assistance with abnormal findings or changes in patient status.
• Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and documents information.
• Maintains time management and prioritizes tasks.
• Processes equipment per manufacturer and industry standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides basic routine patient care activities in the general care areas related to respiratory care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the hospital and department. Ensures care provided is safe, effective, developmentally and age appropriate while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives. Provides cleaning, processing and general maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs various basic routine diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures in the general care areas according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies.
• Recognizes and seeks assistance with abnormal findings and/or changes in patient status to other healthcare team members.
• Effectively communicates by participating in the exchange of information including documentation, handoff and works collaboratively with the healthcare team.
• Holds self-accountable and seeks out opportunities for continuous learning and feedback and is able to prioritize and apply effective time management.
• Processes equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.
