Job summary

Shepherd Center in Atlanta seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide compassionate, direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will observe patient conditions, respond to emergencies, assist with meals, hygiene, and daily living activities, and support the care plan.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• No professional certifications required.
• Hospital or long-term care experience; or nursing school students with one semester of clinical instruction.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to provide multi-skilled direct patient care as delegated by the RN.
• Effective communication and adaptability.
• Critical thinking and sound judgment.
• Maintain congenial working relationships with RNs and others.
• Complete orientation and competency assessments by due date.

Responsibilities

• Provides personal direct care for patients in collaboration with the RN.
• Observes and effectively communicate changes in patient’s condition to the RN and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
• Utilizes a consistent, patient-focused care approach to meet patient needs.
• Assists with the patient dining process by serving meals/feeding.
• Instructs patients in self-care and instrumental activities of daily living.
• Supports the plan of care by carrying out and recording specific nursing procedures.
• Prepares and maintains a record of observations and care given.
• Documents information clearly and completely utilizing correct forms/systems.
• Screens and interviews patients.
• Measures and documents vital signs.
• Monitors and supports patient progress.
• Prepares patients for tests, therapy, and other activities.
• Demonstrates time management, organization, prioritization and critical thinking.
• Uses body, tools, or devices to move, guide, or place patients.
• Serves as clinical preceptor for new staff/students or shadowing experience.
• Practices professional behavior and HIPAA privacy.
• Adheres to patient/family centered principles.
• Establishes relationships with other PCTs.
• Performs to Shepherd Center standards and procedures.
• Ensures appropriate usage of supplies and charging.
• Manages linen and supplies.
• Participates in staff recruitment and onboarding.
• Practices safe techniques and reports injuries or safety issues.
• Monitors regulatory compliance and risk areas.
• Performs other duties as required.
