Job summary

Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency (MVCAA) is seeking a Resource Specialist to serve families across Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties from Rome and Utica. This full-time role links low-income families with available services using a trauma-informed approach to ease poverty-related challenges.

Responsibilities include intake and assessment, enrollment assistance, and coordinating referrals with MVCAA programs.

Qualifications

• AAS in Human Services or related field OR 3+ years’ experience preferred.
• Possess excellent customer service skills.
• Able to communicate with the public and low-income families and individuals as well as maintain accurate records.
• Basic arithmetic skills.
• Basic computer literacy in email, word processing, database entry, and internet navigation.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake, assessment, facilitate enrollment and other assistance to families requesting services.
• Incorporate a Trauma Informed Care approach to program delivery.
• Advocate for the rights of families experiencing poverty and/or individuals.
• Provides information and referral for services.
• Plays key role in agency’s Centralized intake through database system.
• Works in coordination with other MVCAA programs, makes referrals or takes applications for direct services offered by the Agency.
• Conduct outreach and community education programs.
• Attends meetings and participates in trainings, as directed.
• Observes confidentiality according to Head Start Performance Standards and Agency Policy.
• Performs other duties as requested by the Program Manager.

Basic Function

Provides a direct link between the low-income population and the various services available to assist in easing problems caused by poverty.
