Detroit Community Schools is hiring a Resource Room Teacher. Start immediately or 25/26 school year. Must have Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Resource Room Teacher to join our team. The Resource Room Teacher plays a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, helping them reach their academic goals and develop essential skills. The ideal candidate will be skilled in differentiated instruction, possess a deep understanding of special education practices, and demonstrate the ability to create a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and instructional strategies tailored to each student’s unique needs.

  • Provide targeted support to students with disabilities or learning challenges, helping them access the curriculum and develop academic and social skills.

  • Develop, implement, and adapt comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.

  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.

  • Implement appropriate interventions to promote growth and achievement.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.

  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

  • Supervision of multiple students at once

  • Establishing routines and procedures

  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

  • Create and implement instructional plans

  • Participate in continuous professional development

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

  • Stand and walk frequently

  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

  • Withstand a moderate noise level

  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

  • Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

  • Strong knowledge of IEP development, best practices in special education, and differentiated instruction strategies.
