Plans, organizes, a nd coordinates the operation of the Resource Recovery a nd Recycling Collections Section. Supervises, schedules, a nd reviews the work a ctivities of staff engaged in solid waste operations, customer service, a nd the collection a nd recovery of landfill trash, organics, a nd recyclable materials.
Selects, trains, supervises, a nd a ssigns work to supervisory, collections, a nd customer service staff engaged in integrated resource recovery a nd recycling collections a nd related operations. Establishes a nd a pproves work schedules, monitors workflow, a nd evaluates the work of staff.
Plans, coordinates, a nd supervises integrated waste management collections to meet City-wide zero waste goals. Consults with the division manager a nd staff to determine a nd implement zero waste program goals a nd related policies a nd procedures.
Develops, monitors, evaluates, a nd modifies collection routes a nd maps, maintenance schedules, a nd customer service processes to ensure effectiveness a nd efficiency of service. Ensures solid waste collection operations comply with a pplicable federal, state, a nd local laws a nd regulations.
Enforces municipal solid waste ordinances a nd issues citations related to refuse code violations.
A ssists in formulation, planning, a nd implementation of improvements to resource recovery a nd recycling collection s operations.
Researches, gathers data, a nd collaborates with Fleet Maintenance to prepare equipment specifications for the purchase of resource recovery a nd recycling equipment. Develops strategies for equipment replacement that minimize maintenance costs a nd maximize productivity.
Interacts with customers a nd City staff, performs on-site inspections, a nd conducts plan check reviews a nd a pprovals with a pplicable computer software for the trash enclosure component of the building permit process.
Keeps a breast of emerging trends a nd innovative practices for solid waste collection a nd recycling operations.
Responds to inquiries, complaints, a nd requests for information from various customers, including citizens, City staff, a nd the public. Resolves customer problems a nd complaints over the phone, in writing, a nd in person.
Prepares a nd maintains a variety of records a nd reports.
Makes presentations to public a nd community groups.
May serve a s a representative for the Division a t meetings with other City divisions a nd community or neighborhood groups, a s a ssigned.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from a n a ccredited college with a n a ssociate degree or 60 semester units or the equivalent. A dditional recent, related work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
Experience:
Four years of recent, paid work experience in the operation a nd maintenance of integrated solid waste collections. A t least two years of the recent, paid work experience must have included supervisory responsibilities.
