  • Coordinate staffing and related functions to ensure proper coverage of inspection assignments.
  • Develop staffing reports and maintain calendars and events.
  • Answer routine inquiries from the field and customers on personnel and management issues.
  • Maintain personnel files/records and support training coordination.
  • Support broader office operations related to staffing and scheduling.

Job description

These positions are located in the Office of Field Operations, Regulatory Operations, District Offices. The district office is responsible for the overall management of an inspection and enforcement program involving meat, poultry, and egg products in several states. The incumbents of this position have responsibility for coordinating a variety of staffing and related functions to ensure proper and adequate coverage of inspection assignments. Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

For the GS-5 level:

Applicants must have one year of General Experience: 3 years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to:

  • Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
  • Plan and organize work; and
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
For the GS-7 level:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 level) that demonstrates:

  • Assisting in researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides.
  • Assisting in development of staffing reports.
  • Answering routine inquiries from the field and customers on personnel, and management issues.
  • Personnel management and files / records management experience.
  • Maintaining, coordinating calendars and events.
  • Compiling and assembling data, creating, and maintaining spreadsheets, personnel, training, leave, staffing or other administrative requirements.
For the GS-09 level:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 level) that demonstrates:

  • Researching inquiries and providing guidance and advisory services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing.
  • Maintaining personnel management and file/records management.
  • Coordinating training events and providing input or recommendations for training requirements.
  • Researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides.
  • Assisting in the development of staffing reports.
  • Assisting in providing services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
