Job summary

Hexion Inc. in Springfield, Oregon is seeking a safety-conscious Chemical Operator to join our manufacturing team. You will operate, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment to produce resins and chemicals for sustainable applications, while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years in an industrial, chemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read technical documents, schematics, and operating procedures.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime.
  • Must meet physical requirements including lifting up to 55 lbs, frequent climbing, respirator use, confined space entry, fit for duty, ability to perform in plant conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment and control systems.
  • Blend tanks, load/unload raw materials and finished products.
  • Perform SAP transactions for inventory, production tracking, maintenance notifications.
  • Follow SOPs to meet production goals and product specifications.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and assist in shutdown/startup procedures.
  • Contribute to root cause analyses and process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform in-process sampling and lab analysis.
  • Ensure lab safety protocols are followed.
  • Record batch data and maintain quality documentation.
  • Participate in corrective actions for off-spec materials.
  • Communicate effectively across shifts and departments.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to maintain uptime, safety, and quality.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment through collaboration and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

Job Type: Full-Time | Shift-based | On-site

Reports To: Production Superintendent / Shift Lead

Are you a safety-conscious, mechanically inclined professional looking to build a long-term career in a forward-thinking, high-impact manufacturing environment?

At Hexion, a global leader in thermoset resins and specialty chemicals, we’re seeking highly motivated Chemical Operators to join our production team. This role is vital to producing quality resins and chemicals used in a variety of sustainable applications, including engineered wood products and industrial solutions.

As a Chemical Operator, you’ll play a critical role in our continuous and batch production processes. You'll operate complex manufacturing equipment, uphold rigorous safety and environmental standards, and help deliver high-quality materials that meet both customer and regulatory specifications.

What You’ll Do
Health, Safety & Environment (EH&S)
  • Proactively identify and eliminate workplace hazards
  • Adhere to all environmental and safety policies, including use of PPE, respirators, and confined space entry
  • Issue and monitor Safe Work, Hot Work, and Confined Space permits
  • Participate in EH&S audits, training, drills, and incident investigations
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping and emergency preparedness standards
Production Operations
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment and control systems

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial, chemical, or manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read technical documents, schematics, and operating procedures
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime
  • Must meet physical requirements including lifting up to 55 lbs, frequent climbing, respirator use, confined space entry, fit for duty, fitness capable for role, plant
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, forklift operation
  • Familiarity with SAP
  • Vocational or post-secondary technical education
