Job summary

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of experience as an environmental engineer or environmental professional in a manufacturing, industrial, or regulated facility environment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Working knowledge of LRAPA, Oregon DEQ, and federal environmental regulations across multiple media.
  • Strong working knowledge of air compliance and permitting requirements.
  • Practical experience with wastewater permitting and compliance.
  • Familiarity with waste management, stormwater, EPCRA, SPCC, and environmental reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage site environmental programs to support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Support day-to-day environmental compliance activities, including monitoring, inspections, recordkeeping, reporting, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Maintain compliance with key environmental programs, including air, waste management, wastewater, stormwater, EPCRA, and SPCC requirements.
  • Track environmental permit requirements and regulatory obligations to ensure site-specific compliance actions are completed on time.
  • Provide guidance on permit conditions, environmental requirements, regulatory changes, and site best practices.
  • Translate process, operational, and environmental data into usable compliance information.
  • Support environmental awareness and understanding of site environmental expectations.
  • Evaluate projects, process changes, and operational modifications for environmental applicability.
  • Identify environmental permitting or authorization needs related to site changes.
  • Support preparation and submission of required environmental applications, reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve spreadsheets, trackers, and compliance tools to support environmental program execution.
  • Analyze compliance data to identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain organized environmental records and documentation to support audit readiness.
  • Participate in internal audits, external audits, and regulatory agency inspections as needed.
  • Support timely response to audit findings, agency requests, and corrective actions.
  • Help identify practical improvements to strengthen compliance systems and streamline environmental work processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve environmental performance, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Position Overview

The Environmental Engineer is an individual contributor responsible for supporting safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operations at Hexion's Springfield, Oregon facility. This role helps ensure the site meets applicable Lane County, Oregon, and federal environmental regulations while supporting day‑to‑day execution of environmental programs, permit requirements, regulatory reporting, and compliance activities.

This position directly contributes to environmental performance by providing technical guidance, maintaining compliance systems, supporting environmental evaluations for projects and process changes, and helping translate operational data into clear compliance actions. The role serves as a key environmental resource for Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Site Leadership and supports a strong culture of environmental stewardship, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities
Support Environmental Compliance & Program Execution
  • Manage site environmental programs to support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Support day‑to‑day environmental compliance activities, including monitoring, inspections, recordkeeping, reporting, and corrective action follow‑up
  • Maintain compliance with key environmental programs, including air, waste management, wastewater, stormwater, EPCRA, and SPCC requirements
  • Track environmental permit requirements and regulatory obligations to ensure site‑specific compliance actions are completed on time
Provide Environmental Technical Guidance
  • Serve as a technical resource to Site Leadership, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams
  • Provide guidance on permit conditions, environmental requirements, regulatory changes, and site best practices
  • Translate process, operational, and environmental data into usable compliance information
  • Support environmental awareness and understanding of site environmental expectations
Support Project, Process Change & Regulatory Authorization Activities
  • Evaluate projects, process changes, and operational modifications for environmental applicability
  • Identify environmental permitting or authorization needs related to site changes
  • Support preparation and submission of required environmental applications, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution
Manage Reporting, Data & Compliance Tools
  • Support data collection, analysis, and submittal of required environmental reports, including Fire Marshal, Tier II, TRI, and other required regulatory reports
  • Develop, maintain, and improve spreadsheets, trackers, and compliance tools to support environmental program execution
  • Analyze compliance data to identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
  • Maintain organized environmental records and documentation to support audit readiness
Support Audits, Inspections & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in internal audits, external audits, and regulatory agency inspections as needed
  • Support timely response to audit findings, agency requests, and corrective actions
  • Help identify practical improvements to strengthen compliance systems and streamline environmental work processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve environmental performance, accountability, and operational efficiency
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 3 to 6 years of experience as an environmental engineer or environmental professional in a manufacturing, industrial, or regulated facility environment
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Working knowledge of LRAPA, Oregon DEQ, and federal environmental regulations across multiple media
  • Strong working knowledge of air compliance and permitting requirements
  • Practical experience with wastewater permitting and compliance
  • Familiarity with waste management, stormwater, EPCRA, SPCC, and environmental reporting requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and operate independently at times
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and work effectively across functions
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet tools, data tracking, and compliance management systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Experience preparing or supporting Tier II, TRI, emissions, wastewater, stormwater, or other regulatory reporting
  • Experience participating in regulatory inspections, audits, or agency interactions
  • SAP experience or experience with similar enterprise systems
  • Experience supporting environmental reviews for capital projects, process changes, or management of change activities
