Job summary

Hexion in the United States is seeking a Plant Engineer to drive production optimization and continuous improvement at our Phoenix site. You will work with engineering and maintenance teams to improve safety, environmental compliance, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities include owning site process engineering, data analysis, capital project development, and leadership of cross‑functional initiatives, with a focus on reducing energy use and downtime.

Qualifications

Position Overview

The Plant Engineer will be an integral part of the engineering and maintenance teams, driving plant activity, continuous improvement, and process optimization. We are looking for a change agent that thrives in a dynamic environment with broad scope and is motivated by the opportunity to make a measurable impact.

Job Responsibilities
Operations:
  • Ownership of engineering aspects in production optimization of site processes.
  • Assist production in troubleshooting efforts, including data gathering and trending.
  • Develop computer-based tools to improve efficiency at the site.
  • Assist with identification, development, and implementation of capital projects to improve safety, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Responsible for management and reporting of plant maintenance budgets and costs.
  • Identify and implement projects to reduce cost and energy usage and to improve productivity.
  • Lead process optimization activities in cooperation with other functions.
  • Lead continuous activities including root cause analysis, predictive failure analyses, capital spares, etc.
Environmental Health & Safety:

The goal is simple – we want everyone to be able to go home the same way they came to work.

  • Actively promote ownership of EHS throughout the site through actions and participation on EHS Committees.
  • Drive OSHA PSM standards compliance, including Management of Change.
  • Actively participate in PHA reviews and facilities improvements as the site MOC Coordinator.
  • Engage in EHS incident investigations and construct solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of environmental programs and regulations; assist with data tracking/trending for permit compliance.
  • Recommend waste reduction methods and formula changes to reduce process waste.
Associate Engagement:
  • Assist with safety, environmental, and technical training.
  • Recognize strong performance and provide corrective feedback/progressive discipline as needed.
  • Encourage growth and development through providing strong, actionable feedback in the annual performance review process for unit members.
  • Participate in 360 feedback; participate in Leadership Development meetings; serve as a member of the Site Leadership Team; support and drive continuous improvement activities for the facility.
  • Present key performance indicators to leadership staff; effectively partner with production staff; encourage continuous improvement mindset in others.
  • Participate in IMPACT and ensures unit goals align with those of the site & the Corporation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years’ experience in chemical plant or refinery, or equivalent industrial manufacturing.
  • Ability to apply daily and lead with safety, environmental and industrial hygiene rules, and regulations at the forefront of your work.
  • Ability to engage site associates as well as effectively interact with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills in all aspects of your work.
  • Self-driven with a high level of initiative.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to engage associates through every stage of their work.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive associate alignment and accountability.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Morganton Lift Truck License.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5% Domestic Travel.
