Job summary

Bethany Christian Services is seeking a Residential Youth Specialist for the Grand Rapids, MI area. This part-time, on-site role supports refugee and immigrant children and youth as they navigate family reunification and adjustment in a new country.

The position requires high school graduation, 21+ with a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide compassionate care and advocacy.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of child welfare experience working with children and/or adolescents.
• Prior experience working with youth in a residential setting, preferred.
• Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany.
• Must pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries.
• Pass a medical examination and have the physical ability to fulfill essential job functions, including physical restraints.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in assigned activities and encourage positive interaction and growth amongst residents.
• Attend bi-monthly meetings with supervisor to discuss job performance and concerns.
• Follow treatment guidelines by intervening in a caring and consistent manner when needed.
• Oversee residents’ daily routines including meals, study time, outings, and bedtime.
• Provide residential advocacy at staff meetings by updating the team on information related to current level and progress.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
