Job summary

The NYS Office of Children and Family Services is seeking a Vocational Instructor to teach trades to residents at a OCFS residential facility. The role includes preparing lesson plans, outlines, and progress reports, and establishing a shop health and safety program.

Qualifications include various pathways: four years of trade experience with a high school diploma, or an associate's degree with two years, or a bachelor's degree with one year of related trade experience.

Qualifications

• I. four years of appropriate trade experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority;
• II. an associate's degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience;
• III. a bachelor's degree in any area and one year of related trade experience.
• I. four years of trade experience and 9 college credits in pedagogy core coursework including Human Development and Learning; Teaching Students with Disabilities & Special Health-Care Needs; and Curriculum and Instruction.
• II. an associate's degree in a related trade area including 9 pedagogy credits and two years of trade experience;
• III. a bachelor's degree with 9 pedagogy credits and one year of trade experience.
• IV. initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty.
• V. professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty.

Responsibilities

• Teach a trade subject to residents at an OCFS residential facility.
• Prepare lesson plans, course outlines and educational progress reports.
• Establish and maintain a shop health and safety program.
• Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
