Job summary

NeuLife Rehabilitation of Michigan seeks a Residential Transportation Driver to safely move residents between homes, sites, and community events. You will ensure proper loading, comply with traffic laws, and assist with mobility while maintaining vehicle upkeep and confidentiality.

The role may also serve as Direct Care Worker when needed. Strong communication, a valid Michigan license, and CPR/First Aid are required or obtainable within the specified timeframe.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of driving experience.
• Valid Michigan driver's license with clean record.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Remain calm in emergencies.
• Commitment to person-centered care and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport persons served between NeuLife locations and community destinations.
• Assist individuals with entry/exit and mobility as needed.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain cleanliness and fueling of assigned vehicles.
• Monitor passenger safety and address disruptive or unsafe behaviors.
• Communicate schedule updates and route changes to staff.
• Report accidents or vehicle concerns to management.
• Maintain confidentiality under HIPAA and company policy.
• Complete transportation logs and incident reports per standards.
• Support residential programming as needed.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Residential Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting persons served between NeuLife residential homes, vocational sites, medical appointments, community outings, and other approved destinations. This role ensures safe loading and unloading of passengers, compliance with Michigan traffic laws and company transportation policies, and proper vehicle maintenance oversight.

This role may also function as a Direct Care Worker when operationally necessary.

Job Responsibilities

• Safely transport persons served to and from NeuLife locations and approved community destinations
• Assist individuals with entry and exit from vehicles, including mobility assistance as needed
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (lights, brakes, signals, mirrors, tires, fluid levels)
• Maintain cleanliness and fueling of assigned vehicles
• Monitor passenger safety and appropriately address disruptive or unsafe behaviors
• Communicate schedule updates, delays, or route changes to persons served and staff
• Immediately report accidents, vehicle concerns, unsafe conditions, or traffic disruptions to management
• Maintain confidentiality of persons served in accordance with HIPAA and company policy
• Complete required transportation logs, documentation, and incident reports per agency standards
• Support residential programming or assist staff when assigned
• Attend required trainings and meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience required
• Valid State of Michigan Driver's License with clean driving record
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations
• Demonstrated commitment to person-centered care and teamwork

Physical Requirements

• Frequent driving between NeuLife residential homes, vocational programs, and community locations
• Exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions during transportation duties
• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
• Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and reach without restrictions
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or transfer up to 50 pounds
• Ability to assist with emergency evacuations when necessary
• May require evening, weekend, or holiday availability
