Job summary

New Ways Services – ABI Division seeks a Residential Support Specialist to create a safe, supportive home for individuals with acquired brain injuries, promoting independence and community engagement in line with MHA’s values.

Pay is $19–$21 per hour. Shifts Tue 8a–4p and Thu–Sun 8a–4p (40 hours). Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain MAP, CPR, and first aid certifications; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• May require MAP, CPR and First Aid certifications (willing to obtain).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; manage time and priorities.
• Flexibility to adapt to participants’ evolving needs.
• Six months of relevant experience with brain injuries or mental health challenges preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate respectfully with participants to promote self-esteem, empowerment, and independence.
• Assist with personal care, daily routines, meal preparation, and support with finances and transportation.
• Facilitate access to community resources and teach self-advocacy; implement service plans.
• Complete documentation, track progress, and report incidents promptly.
• Maintain scheduling flexibility; participate in meetings and trainings.
• Collaborate with the team and support program goals.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

MAP, CPR, and First Aid Certifications (willing to obtain)

Valid driver’s license

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Time management and priority setting

Flexibility to adapt to evolving needs of participants

Experience with brain injuries or mental health challenges (preferred)
