A residential cooperative is seeking a full-time maintenance technician responsible for a variety of mechanical tasks including carpentry and HVAC repairs. The work associated with this position will require demonstration of strong mechanical skills and aptitude, physical ability to safely accomplish a variety of tasks, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to complete assignments with a minimum of direct supervision.
Assignments will include, but will not be limited to:
A. Light carpentry work (various tasks associated with general maintenance of residential buildings – interior and exterior) (Basic)
B. Residential electrical repair/installation (Basic)
C. Residential plumbing repair and, on occasion, installation – must be able to effectively work with basic residential plumbing devices and possess the skills required to work with copper tubing and PVC drains
D. Residential HVAC – trouble shooting and repair work
E. Residential mechanical tasks such as windows and door repair
Safety considerations – specific requirements:
A. A safe driving record and the ability to safely drive the various vehicles owned by the Cooperative
B. The ability to safely set ladders and work from ladders and/or roofs at least two stories high
C. Possession and use of attire required to safely perform required tasks (such as appropriate shoes for ladder and roof work) (some materials are supplied)
D. The ability to safely use common cleaning agents and equipment
E. The ability to safely lift and control loads of at least 90 pounds
F. Special trade Licenses and certifications are a plus
General requirements:
A. This position involves trust and integrity. All employees must be bondable and disclose prior to employment, any previous experiences that may impact our ability to secure a bond.
B. The individual in this position will be expected to be able to evaluate a problem and determine the best course of action to take to resolve the problem.
C. A working and technical understanding of servicing residential heating and air conditioning systems with minimum EPA Technician Certification Type I and II is a plus.
D. Being able to effectively interact with members/ and the Cooperative staff is an essential element of this position.
E. This position will require working overtime on occasion. Overtime assignments will be both scheduled and non-scheduled (emergency as determined by management).
F. 24 hour “on-call” assignments are part of this position. Generally, 26 weeks of a calendar year are required to fill this requirement. However, various conditions can affect the extent of this requirement. Scheduling is determined and set by management with the goal of being beneficial to all concerned.
Compensation:
We offer a competitive starting rate, however starting rates commensurate with demonstrated Skills and experience… The probationary period will be (90) days. At the end of probation, an employee’s hourly rate can be re-evaluated based on proven skills and work standards.

This position is offered in the south suburban area of ILLINOIS. You will be required fill out a general maintenance questionnaire.
