Qualifications

  • AA degree required with related coursework (child development, education, behavioral sciences, counseling, social work or psychology)
  • Two or more years of experience working with high school age students in a residential setting
  • Strong computer skills
  • Basic counseling knowledge and methods as applied to students
  • Strong leadership, communication and human relations skills with Native American students
  • Ability to speak Navajo is preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication with students, staff, parents and public
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Supports and carries out responsibilities in accordance with NPS policies and procedures
  • Represents NPS professionally to enhance community understanding of the program
  • Maintains confidentiality of faculty and student information
  • Develops a strong residential program promoting independent living and college dorm life; leads weekly activities
  • Provides residential supervision to ensure safety and accountability; conducts checks
  • Maintains accurate student files and updates NASIS attendance; assists with audits
  • Posts dorm GPA and supports academic monitoring and tutoring
  • Develops and maintains dorm facilities in a clean, safe condition
  • Implements student safety rules including medication handling and fire drills
  • Leads monthly dorm meetings
  • Completes residential intakes within two weeks of school start
  • Supports academic services and study halls; monitors grades
  • Coordinates residential activities including cultural events and flyers
  • Reports safety deficiencies and coordinates with supervisors
  • Assists students and parents with appropriate referrals when needed
  • Collaborates with SBHC and School Nurse for appointments and events
  • Chaperones off-campus trips
  • Monitors evening study halls and supports discipline policies
  • Participates in major school activities and professional interactions
  • Complies with background checks and training requirements
  • Contributes to a growth plan related to service scope
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assists dorm officers and residents with positive group activities
  • Keeps informed about safety plans and communicates concerns
  • Maintains communication with parents and staff about student issues
  • Ensures accountability during residential hours through checks and reporting
  • Monitors dorm condition and reports equipment safety hazards
  • Checks students in/out and documents dorm room conditions
  • Manages dorm keys and security checks
  • Instructs emergency procedures and conducts fire safety drills
  • Monitors visitors and reports incidents
  • Maintains medication cabinet and documents administration
  • Completes required reports timely
