Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Dormitory Counselor at the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown, PA.

You will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive living environment for students, providing guidance, supervision, and daily assistance to promote rehabilitation, learning, and personal growth. Responsibilities include counseling, orientation, safety monitoring, incident documentation, and assisting with daily operations.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience with school age children (6–21) or adults in an organized program or related field.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.
• Must meet PA residency requirements.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and advise students on social, interpersonal, and adjustment concerns; refer to additional support when needed.
• Orient new students to dormitory life and assist with room assignments and resources.
• Tour dormitory and outdoor areas to identify hazards and maintain a safe environment.
• Monitor student conduct in dormitories and document incidents when necessary.
• Respond to medical, psychological, and evacuation situations and obtain assistance as needed.
• Complete reports and support student services, mail distribution, and recreational activities.
