Bryn Mawr College has an opening for a Residential Life Coordinator.

The Residential Life and Student Engagement (RLSE) office at Bryn Mawr College has one opening for an energetic individual who is invested in the academic, social, and emotional growth of students to join our relationship-centered team.

Residential Life Coordinators (2 RLCs) are part of the RLSE department that includes an Associate Dean, an Assistant Dean, the Student Engagement Coordinator, and an Office Coordinator. The team collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to build positive, inclusive residential and leadership experiences in a unique student community that is governed by an academic and social honor code.

The RLC position is a 10-month, full-time position in the Office of Residential Life and Student Engagement. This generalist position is designed to provide the opportunity for comprehensive and valuable experience in student life within a selective, residential liberal arts college setting. The RLCs provide support and serve as a resource to students, residential life and student engagement professionals, student staff members (Hall Advisors and the Owl Programming Board), and other student life and campus offices. The RLCs also provide evening/overnight and weekend on-call support (primarily via text and phone) to the Bryn Mawr residential community. RLCs also assist with departmental planning efforts, operational tasks, and large campus events and programs.

General Responsibilities

Community Development and Involvement

  • Develop and facilitate relevant dorm and campus wide programming on topics that promote healthy student development, a sense of belonging, and inclusivity.
  • Support students and student groups in effectively managing conflict through facilitated conversation, mediation, and/or other systems as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Health and Wellness staff to help educate students regarding alcohol and drugs.
  • Help organize and manage large campus events, including college Traditions and other major student programs.
  • Work with students to plan their hall, dorm and campus wide programs as needed.
  • Consult and collaborate with other departments about issues related to the overall student experience.
  • Serve as a facilitator for THRIVE, Bryn Mawr’s first-year college transition and life skills course.

Student Leadership Programs (residential staff and student clubs)

Hall Advisor (HA), Owl Programming Board (OPB), and Dorm Leadership Team (DLT) Programs

  • Assist with recruitment, selection, training, advising, and evaluation of 41 undergraduate Hall Advisors, and 15-20 Owl programming board members.
  • Facilitate weekly small group meetings of HAs. to provide support and on-going feedback, and discuss student issues and behaviors, community trends, programs and facilities concerns.
  • Conduct bi-weekly individual check-in meetings with HAs.
  • Respond to student issues, including roommate conflicts and individual physical, emotional, or psychological concerns.
  • Assist Student Engagement coordinator with advising the Owl programming board and other clubs as needed.
  • Help plan and execute ongoing leadership development and team building for student leaders (HAs, dorm leadership team members, clubs and orgs)
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for HAs, DLT and club leaders.
  • Collaborate on the development and evaluation of the HA, DLT and OPB training programs.
  • Advise and support DLTs through monthly group meetings and individual advising as needed.

Emergency Response

  • Provide on-call consultation and/or response to emergency situations, such as physical and mental health crises, alcohol and drug incidents, and interpersonal conflicts. The RLCs are part of a three- to four-person on-call rotation. Standard on-call hours are 7:00pm-9:00am on weekdays and 5:00pm Friday evening through 9:00am Monday morning.
  • Coordinate response as necessary with Campus Safety and other student life staff members via phone and/or text with the rare occasion of responding in person on campus for more complicated situations.
  • Complete thorough and timely documentation of calls and incidents in weekly action summary report.
  • Participate in the weekly Safety Meeting with other student life departments to help coordinate follow up on health and safety related incidents.
  • Help disseminate information and maintain communication with students living in the dorms during campus-wide emergencies, such as power outages and designated bad weather days.
  • Serve as a designated Responsible Employee under Title IX for undergraduate students.

Residential Life and Student Engagement Administrator

  • Assist with all administrative processes (i.e., room selection, dorm closings, break housing, student engagement event preparations, etc.).
  • Maintain regular verbal and written communication with staff team members through e-mail, phone, and individual and group meetings.
  • Attend weekly staff team meetings, individual check-ins, and monthly divisional meetings.
  • Assist with managing college departmental website and social medial accounts
  • Develop the RLSE monthly newsletter

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year post-undergraduate experience preferred in counseling, advising, college housing, residential life, student activities or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred
  • Commitment to social justice and inclusion and a desire to work with a diverse population.
  • Experience with restorative practices, conflict mediation, group facilitation, team building, leadership training and presentations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • On-call and/or crisis response experience preferred.
  • Evenings and weekend flexibility are required for on-call rotation, large campus events, and student programming.
  • Motivation and eagerness to explore projects and experiences in other areas of student life.
  • Prior residential life experience is a plus, including housing and/or student engagement software experience (eRezLife and ENGAGE)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle preferred.
  • Due to on-call and evening and weekend responsibilities, applicants must have reliable transportation and live within 30 minutes of campus. (Campus housing is not included).
