Job summary

The College of St. Scholastica is seeking an Area Coordinator for Residential Life to oversee eight on-campus residence halls and supervise student staff.

You will support a living-learning community for ~800 students, mentor RAs, and coordinate programming and safety efforts under the Director of Residential Life. You will need a Bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years in student services or residence life, with the ability to work evenings and weekends and build rapport with a diverse student body.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, business management, or related field and 1–2 years of professional academic, student development, program planning, and management experience.
• 1–2 years related experience in college or university-operated residence halls, summer conferencing, or professional college student programming.
• Ability to foster a healthy and safe living-learning environment.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
• Ability to build rapport with a diverse array of students.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently to carry out multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Actively support residential students by attending hall activities and campus events.
• Oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of RA programming and community engagement.
• Establish rapport and mentor a diverse student body.
• Provide support and referrals for students’ emotional, personal, behavioral, and academic needs.
• Manage crisis situations and ensure health and safety of residents.
• Support residential curriculum with learning activity guidance and RA training.
• Assist with retention efforts and resident outreach with CARE Team.
• Coordinate room changes and manage roommate relations when needed.
• Read, understand, and explain policies; enforce them fairly.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate RAs; recruit, select, and train RA staff.
• Develop and support student staff through motivation and accountability.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy.
• Maintain effective communication with Director, students, parents, and campus departments.
• Coordinate Health, Maintenance, and Safety Inspections in each room.
