Job summary

Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is seeking a Residential Instructor to support the Boarding Program. The role focuses on supervising students, documenting behavior, and fostering independence and daily living skills in a dorm setting.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for 2+ years of related full-time experience. Sign language proficiency and ability to lift 20 lbs are important; training in CPI and CPR will be provided.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of effective communication principles and techniques.
• Ability to instruct deaf and/or blind persons in social and daily living skills.
• Ability to visually monitor and track assigned students.
• Ability to ensure health and sanitary conditions are maintained.
• Ability to document and follow through on behavior programs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor student behavior and document incidents.
• Promote student development and self-esteem during activities.
• Use Individual Dorm Plans to build social and daily living skills.
• Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a developmentally appropriate manner.
• Maintain a safe, clean dorm environment and follow policies.
