Job summary

McCrea Equipment Company, Inc. (MEC) is seeking a Start & Check Technician to install, startup, test, and commission HVAC systems in new residential construction.

You will ensure equipment and controls are wired, charged, tested, and operating per manufacturer specifications and MEC procedures. Responsibilities include low-voltage wiring, thermostat/configuration, humidifier/zone controls, refrigerant charging, and conducting commissioning tests.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites.
• CFC certification required or obtained with MEC assistance.
• Knowledge of residential HVAC systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools, meters, and test equipment.
• Professional communication with customers and team members.
• Ability to obtain HVAC apprenticeship license with MEC support.

Responsibilities

• Perform startup and commissioning of HVAC systems in new homes.
• Complete low-voltage wiring for equipment and controls.
• Install and configure thermostats and HVAC control systems.
• Install humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and zoning equipment; verify operation.
• Evacuate and charge refrigerant lines per specs.
• Perform pre-function inspections and commissioning tests.
• Review drawings and equipment lists for proper installation.
• Use voltmeters and basic hand tools to perform checks.
• Identify and address issues during startup and commissioning.
• Communicate status and needed corrections to builders and trades.
• Ensure systems are ready for final use and safe operation.
