Kuhlman Electric is seeking a Residential Electrical Service Technician Apprentice to develop skills in troubleshooting, repairs, and installations under supervision. The role focuses on customer communication, safety, and hands-on training to prepare for a Lead Service Technician Level I position.
Through mentorship, you will learn to scope work, estimate materials and labor, schedule and organize service visits, and progress toward licensing requirements for escalation to lead technician roles.
The Residential Electrical Service Technician Apprentice is a developmental role designed to prepare the employee to transition into a Lead Service Technician Level I position after demonstrating satisfactory training, technical knowledge, and job performance, and obtaining the required electrical licensure.
Working under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Service Technician Level I, the apprentice supports residential troubleshooting, diagnostic repairs, and new installations. Through structured on-the-job training and mentorship, the apprentice develops the technical, customer service, estimating, and organizational skills needed to eventually lead residential service appointments.
Technical Development: Build proficiency in residential troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and applicable electrical code requirements.
Customer Consultation: Learn to evaluate homeowner needs, explain findings clearly, and present tiered project options by observing and assisting the supervising technician.
Estimating & Documentation: Develop the ability to prepare accurate scopes of work, material lists, labor projections, and estimates for review.
Service Workflow: Learn to organize appointments, prepare materials, support same-day completions, and refer larger projects to the office for scheduling with the install teams.
Field Experience: Demonstrate accountability, sound judgment, professional communication, technical knowledge, workmanship, safety, customer care, reliability, and readiness for increased responsibility.
Transition to Lead Service Technician Level I: Advancement is based on satisfactory completion of training, demonstrated competency, management approval, and fulfillment of applicable licensing requirements. Until those requirements are met, electrical work remains under licensed supervision.
Electrical trade school or apprenticeship completion is preferred.
Ideally 3-4 years of previous residential electrical experience preferred.
Strong customer service focus required
Ability to meet company background check and drug screening requirements, as applicable.
Ability to work at residential job sites, including basements, attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor areas.
Ability to perform essential duties involving ladders, standing, bending, kneeling, and moving tools and materials, with or without reasonable accommodation.
