Job summary

Volunteers of America- Greater New York (VOA- Greater New York) seeks a Part Time Residential Counselor in Fanwood, NJ. You will deliver wellness and recovery-oriented case management and support services to residents in a group home setting.

Responsibilities include skill development, counseling, transportation, crisis intervention, and helping with individual service plans. Benefits include health coverage and retirement options; training and support are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mental health, health, or related human services discipline is required.
• A license as a registered nurse (RN) is required or equivalent experience with college.
• Alternative: four years total related work or life experience if the degree does not meet requirements.
• Valid state driver's license with a safe driving record per agency procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site supervision and support to service recipients.
• Communicate observations to the program manager, RN and treatment team.
• Supervise recreational and socialization activities.
• Transport and assist with appointments.
• Provide residential counseling and crisis intervention.
• Assist in development of individual service plans.
• Participate in coordination activities including vocational and educational services.
• Document observations and services in progress notes.
• Maintain a clean, safe facility and assist with meals and daily living activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in mental health/health or related human services

RN license

Four years experience via college + related work/life

One year related work/life experience if no 4-year degree

Practical nurse license + two years related experience

High school diploma or equivalent + four years related experience

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:
Position: Residential Counselor (Part Time)
The Residential Counselor is responsible to deliver wellness and recovery-oriented case management and support services to service recipients in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Human Services-Division of Mental Health and Addictions Services regulations. The residential counselor provides support directly to the residents, including but not limited to: skill development, supportive counseling, transportation, crisis intervention, assistance with task completion, vocational and social support.

Location: Fanwood, NJ 07023 (Union County)
Minimum Qualifications:

• The position shall have one of the following: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health, health or other appropriate human services related discipline; a license as a registered nurse; a combination of one or more years of college, plus related work or life experience together equaling four years.
• The individual is required to have at least one year of related work or life experience if the four-year college degree does not meet the requirements above. A license as a practical nurse plus two years of related work or life experience or a high school diploma or the equivalent, plus four years of related work or life experience.
• This position shall also have a valid state driver's license with a safe driving record that meets agency procedures.

Residential Counselor Principal Responsibilities:

• Provide on-site supervision and support to service recipient.
• Communicate observations and information about the service recipient to the program manager, RN and treatment team.
• Supervise, organize and support recreational and/or socialization activities.
• Transport and/or assist service recipient with accessing transportation to appointments.
• Provide residential counseling and crisis intervention (but not including crisis intervention counseling)
• Participate in the development of the individual service plan.
• Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services.
• Document observations information and services provided to the service recipient in progress notes.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment in the facility, including assisting with meal preparation and activities of daily living as needed by the service recipient.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
