Job summary

Arrow Child & Family Ministries in Bel Air, MD is seeking a Residential Counselor to provide daily care and supervision for residents in care. This role emphasizes trauma-informed programming and safety, supporting residents in behavior and social development.

You will teach life skills, document shift activities, and collaborate with clinical staff in treatment groups while maintaining professional boundaries. Flexibility for varied shifts and potential driving duties are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience working with children and families.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must obtain RCYCP licensure within 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Engage in a trauma informed model of programming to provide physical and emotional safety for residents.
• Supervise residents in various activities to observe and promote positive social behavior and teach rules and manners.
• Model and teach life skills to residents to develop relationships and social navigation.
• Complete shift documentation including notes, incident reports, and inventories.
• Observe methods of clinical staff and participate in treatment; co-facilitate clinical groups.
• Escort residents to groups, meetings, mealtime, recreation, education, and appointments.
• Maintain age-appropriate rules and expectations during work, recreation, and education.
• Administer and record medication as ordered by physician or nurse.
• Provide supervision for activities in canine and equine programs.
• Work to prevent inappropriate behaviors and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Maintain professional boundaries and communicate information to facilitate treatment.
• Be flexible to work various shifts; attend trainings and meetings.
• Review client files periodically to understand residents’ needs and goals.
• Perform all duties within regulations, policy, and standards; may drive company vehicles.

The Residential Counselor is responsible for daily care and supervision of residents while in care.

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Engage in a trauma informed model of programming to provide physical and emotional safety for residents.
• Supervise residents in various activities in order to observe and promote positive social behavior or affect changes in their social behavior. Teaches rules, manners, practices for interpersonal relationships, personal care, etc.
• Model and teach life skills to program residents that will help them develop interpersonal relationships, social skills and how to navigate through their internal and external surroundings.
• Complete shift documentation including but not limited to residential case notes, incident reports, and resident inventory; also required to complete documentation requested by clinical or medical staff such as sleep logs and behavior checklists.
• Observe methods/techniques of clinical staff and participate in treatment of residents in interaction, limit setting, and implementation of treatment plans, also responsible for co- facilitation and involvement in clinical groups.
• Assignments include but are not limited to: escorting residents to groups, interviews, meetings, mealtime, recreation, educational activities, medical appointments, and participate in supervision and instruction.
• Maintain developmental age-appropriate rules and expectations, including proper conduct of residents during work, recreation, and education.
• Administer and record medication as ordered by physician or delegating nurse.
• Provide supervision for resident participation in the canine and equine programs to include direct care for the animals when necessary.
• Work to prevent inappropriate behaviors in the residential area.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Maintain professional boundaries between self and residents to ensure appropriateness in the working relationship.
• Communicate all appropriate information internally and externally to facilitate the treatment of the resident.
• Must be flexible and available to work various shifts on multiple days of the week.
• Attend trainings and meetings as required.
• Review client files on a periodic basis to become familiar with the specific, individualized needs and goals of the residents in their care.
• Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory agency standards.
• May be required to drive vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete company vehicle training.

Qualifications
