Job description

At NFI North, we strive to create a world where mental and behavioral health services are readily accessible for everyone creating A Place to Belong. NFI North provides mental health and behavioral support services to people facing life challenges. We design diverse and innovative programs that provide a high level of structure within communities of care when a person or family is in need. Our goal is for people to grow, have hope, thrive in their community and feel like they belong.

We are a residential program supporting adults over the age of 50 who have experienced long-term mental health challenges. Our focus is on helping each person build confidence, develop skills and independence, to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. We believe in celebrating successes (big and small!), and creating opportunities for connection, laughter, growth, and community involvement. At Finson Road, no two days are exactly alike!

As a Direct Care Counselor, you will have opportunities to:
  • Build meaningful, supportive relationships with our participants.
  • Encourage independence and help individuals develop everyday living skills.
  • Support participants with daily activities, personal goals, and community involvement.
  • Create opportunities for fun, laughter, learning, and connection.
  • Provide compassionate support while maintaining healthy, professional boundaries.
  • Assist with medication administration, documentation, and daily program responsibilities following training and applicable requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with a team that values communication, creativity and respect.
Our ideal candidate is someone who:
  • Leads with kindness, patience, compassion, and respect.
  • Recognizes that every person has their own story, strengths, challenges, and dreams.
  • Is dependable, flexible, and willing to learn.
  • Can balance compassion with consistency and professional boundaries.
  • Works well as part of a team and brings a positive attitude to their day.
  • Understands that sometimes the smallest moments can make the biggest difference.

An associate’s degree in human services or a related field would be preferred; however, equivalent experience is also acceptable. It is important for candidates to have the ability to recognize each of our clients’ uniqueness, needs and desires. Candidates must be flexible, possess the ability to be multi-tasked, and have a willingness to learn the clinical issues of individuals with mental illness, as well as the cognitive deficits and multiple medical conditions that accompany the individual during the aging process, more importantly how these work together.

NFI North offers comprehensive and affordable Medical, Dental, Prescription and Vision coverage. Generous paid time off including 3 weeks of vacation, sick time and 11 paid holidays. We also offer a 4-day work week (10-hour days), tuition reimbursement, retirement match, company paid Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability and much more! In addition to excellent training, we offer supportive environments that allow for creativity, a sense of empowerment and opportunities for advancement.
