Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Gig Harbor, WA is seeking a Camp Unit Leader to live at Camp Seymour and supervise a team of 8-12 cabin staff while organizing the overall day camp program. The residential role includes room and board for the season.

This position requires a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and prior camp experience is preferred. First Aid/CPR are strongly preferred, with required background checks after offer and training on day one.

Qualifications

• Commitment to valuing diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Minimum age 20.
• Two summers of camp staff experience or equivalent.
• Cabin leadership and supervision experience.
• Positive attitude with diverse populations.
• First Aid and CPR preferred; Lifeguard certification preferred.
• Able to pass background and reference checks.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive, inclusive environment and uphold camp policies.
• Connect with campers quickly and ensure inclusion.
• Participate actively in activities and lead transitions.
• Evaluate situations and resolve conflicts per camp procedures.
• Identify campers needing extra help and support staff.
• Supervise and coach cabin staff; conduct mid/ end-of-summer evaluations.
• Assist with daily programming and overnights as needed.
