Job summary

Sunnyside Communities in Harrisonburg is seeking a Transportation Assistant to provide safe, dependable, and timely transport for residents on and off campus, and assist with campus mail distribution. This role emphasizes professional, hospitality-focused service aligning with Sunnyside’s mission of inspiring a spirit of community and well-being.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a valid Virginia driver’s license, and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
• Proficiency in operating a personal computer and office equipment.
• Ability to make decisions based on available information.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license; meet Sunnyside policy HR069.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification.
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
• Strong customer service with a hospitality-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Transport residents to medical appointments and other destinations.
• Safely operate Sunnyside vehicles (wheelchair buses, vans, and cars).
• Follow driving laws and road safety procedures.
• Provide timely campus shuttle services per schedules.
• Transport residents to locations including shopping; manage passengers.
• Assist with resident shopping and submit receipts promptly.
• Respond calmly to medical emergencies during transport.
• Represent Sunnyside professionally at all times.
• Follow vehicle accident policy RS.047 if involved.
• Perform weekly vehicle inspections and submit work orders.
• Communicate with Transportation Scheduler for efficient scheduling.
• Perform bank-related duties, handling money and receipts.
• Sort and distribute incoming mail and newspapers.
• Coordinate and schedule medical appointments for residents.
• Provide front desk coverage and gate coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
