Job summary

Community Housing Innovations, Inc. (CHI) is seeking part-time Resident Support Specialists for our Middle Island location.

You will provide a safe, structured environment for CHI residents and staff while supervising tours and ensuring adherence to policies. Responsibilities include screening visitors, performing bag checks, assisting with room turnover, monitoring safety systems, and supporting front desk operations.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years of experience in related field preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; English proficiency required; bilingual Spanish is a plus.
• Basic computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office, Internet usage.
• Physical ability to tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, stay organized, meet deadlines, and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Maintain visibility to residents, staff, and visitors by wearing a safety monitor vest, ID badge, and professional attire.
• Screen all clients and visitors entering the facility.
• Perform bag searches upon intake and as required.
• Ensure clients abide by the facility, DSS, and OTDA policies and procedures.
• De-escalate potential crisis situations and document interventions.
• Conduct rounds throughout the facility including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, and other common areas.
• Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
• Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations/front desk.
• Monitor video surveillance cameras, fire prevention, detection alarm, and notification system.
• Support the running of fire drills; evacuate the building when necessary, utilize fire safety procedures.
• Assist with room preparation and turnover for new clients.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning and office supplies and ensure proper distribution.

You will provide a safe, structured, and supervised environment for CHI residents and staff. The RSS coordinates and verifies client movement in the facility while also monitoring the client conduct and overall behavior during tour of duty.
