Job summary

Community Housing Innovations, Inc. is seeking a full-time Resident Support Specialist for our Commack location.

The RSS maintains a safe, structured environment, screens entrants, supports residents, and assists with daily operations from front desk duties to incident documentation. You will conduct rounds, monitor safety systems, de-escalate crises, and assist with room turnover while ensuring adherence to policies.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of related experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; English proficiency; bilingual Spanish a plus.
  • Basic computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office, internet usage.
  • Physical ability to tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs.
  • Strong prioritization, judgment, and notification skills.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team; stay organized; meet deadlines; multitask; be flexible; attentive to details; be even-tempered and a good negotiator.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain visibility to residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Screen clients and visitors entering the facility.
  • Conduct bag searches at intake and as required.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies.
  • De-escalate potential crises and document interventions.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the facility.
  • Complete logs and incident reports and other documentation.
  • Perform administrative and front desk duties.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and fire safety systems.
  • Support fire drills and evacuations as needed.
  • Assist with room preparation and turnover for new clients.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and report needs to management.
  • Support afterschool/evening activities as needed.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

CHI is looking for a full-time Resident Support Specialist (RSS) for our Commack location. You will provide a safe, structured, and supervised environment for CHI residents and staff. The RSS coordinates and verifies client movement in the facility while also monitoring the client conduct and overall behavior during tour of duty. This is accomplished by performing the following functions:

  • Maintain visibility to residents, staff, and visitors by wearing a safety monitor vest, ID badge, and professional attire.
  • Screen all clients and visitors entering the facility.
  • Perform bag searches upon intake and as required.
  • Ensure clients abide by the facility, DSS, and OTDA policies and procedures.
  • De-escalate potential crisis situations and document all interventions.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the facility including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, and other common areas.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
  • Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations/front desk.
  • Monitor video surveillance cameras, fire prevention, detection alarm, and notification system.
  • Support the running of fire drills; evacuate the building when necessary, utilize fire safety procedures.
  • Assist with room preparation and turnover for new clients.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and office supplies and ensure proper distribution.
  • Inform management of work site’s physical condition (i.e. dangerous conditions, possible repair needs, supply needs, etc.).
  • Support afterschool/evening activities as needed.
ANYTHING ELSE?
  • Salary: $19.00 an hour (approximately $39,520 annually)
  • Overtime available
  • Open shifts: [Tuesday - Saturday, 4 p.m. - 12 a.m.]
WHAT DO I NEED?
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in related field preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Computer Skills: Basic competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and internet usage.
  • Physical Performance: Ability to tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls, and perform proper notifications.
  • Other Skills: Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details. Must be even-tempered, have good negotiation skills, and the ability to meet unexpected deadlines.
